Applications for the 2017 Matt Clark Travelling Scholarship are open. All Townsville-based visual artists aged between 18 and 30 will be eligible to apply.

Identify the arts event or exhibition you would like to attend

In 500 words or less, outline how attending this event or exhibition will benefit your professional and creative development

Outline what efforts you will make and opportunities you will take to engage with creative peers and professionals. This may include arranging to meet with/interview artists or arts industry professionals, attend workshops, undertake tours, etc.

Attach a budget overview of how you will attend the event or exhibition. Include estimates of all possible costs, including flights, accommodation, tickets, meals, and travel. Also indicate any personal contribution you would need to make in excess of the $1000 scholarship to achieve this project. Outline how you will document and report on your chosen event or exhibition, and share this information with the Townsville arts community should you be successful. This may be in the form of a report, blog on a public website, a video/film displayed at a public venue, or a public talk, etc.

Conditions of Entry
1. The scholarship is open to artists aged between 18 and 30 on the closing date for applications.
2. Applicants are based in Townsville, North Queensland.
3. Only applications that complete all of the below fields and submit the requested attachments will be considered.
4. The successful applicant(s) will be required to develop and submit a report accompanied by photographs of their trip within 3 months of the trip's completion.
5.The successful applicant(s) will consent to the Matt Clark Travelling Scholarship, its A-List Partners, and La Luna Youth Arts publishing submitted text, imagery and video for the purposes of promotion and publicity.

Matt Clark Travelling Scholarship – Secondary School Portrait Prize

The Matt Clark Travelling Scholarship Secondary School Portrait Prize is a competition open to all Townsville-based secondary school students in any year level. Entrants may submit work in any two-dimensional medium. The only artistic criterion is that the work must be a portrait. Finalists and Prize Money

Works by the selected finalists chosen from the submitted images, will be featured in a display at Umbrella Studio contemporary arts from 17 November until Sunday 17 December 2017. All entrants will be vying for a $200 cash prize.

Conditions of Entry
1. Applicants must reside within the Townsville City Council local government area and attend a secondary school in the Townsville local government region.
2. All entries must be original and unaided work of the entrants.
3. Each entrant may submit a maximum of one (1) entry.
4. Works entered must have been completed this year.
5. Works must be a portrait, whether this be a self-portrait or of another sitter.
6. Works may be in any two-dimensional medium, including paintings and drawings, collage, prints (which includes traditional prints such as lino, etching and screen prints), photography, digital art or illustration.
7. Entries must not be larger than 90cm in any direction.
8. Entries must be lodged by the due date above to be eligible.
9. There is no entry fee.
10. Selected finalists (unless deemed to be offensive or inappropriate by the Trustees of the Matt Clark Travelling Scholarship) will be included in a display at the Umbrella Studio contemporary arts exhibition.
11. A select number of finalists will be chosen by the Trustees of the Matt Clark Travelling Scholarship from the submitted entries, and a winner selected from the finalists. No correspondence regarding the selection of finalists or the winner will be entered into.
12. The winner will receive a $200 cash prize at the announcement during the Umbrella Studio contemporary arts launch.
13. By entering, the artist agrees to make their work available for display at Umbrella Studio contemporary arts at the end of the year should it be selected as one of the finalists.
14. Following the display, works will be made available for the Artist to collect. Works that remain unclaimed after a period of one (1) month will be recycled.
15. Parents/guardians and young artists grant permission for La Luna Youth Arts, Umbrella Studio contemporary arts, the Matt Clark Travelling Scholarship and it’s A-List Partners to reproduce photos taken of the entered artworks and young artists involved in the awards for media and promotional purposes.
